兒童牙齒矯正有一點是大家經常忽視的，那就是兒童牙齒矯正的最佳時機。一旦把握住兒童牙齒矯正的最佳時機，那麼牙齒矯正的成功率就會大大提高。

有的家長看到孩子的牙齒錯位，就用拔掉多生牙、錯位牙來解決，這是非常錯誤的。因為每顆牙齒的功能不同，沒有經過專業口腔醫生的考量，很有可能會把將來矯正過程中有用的牙齒拔掉，造成無法彌補的失誤。更不要把兒童牙齒矯正交給非正規醫院的“遊醫”來做，有的患者嫌自己的“虎牙”難看，殊不知這兩顆突出的雙尖牙根最長，除了起到重要的撕裂作用外還支撐著口角，如果誤拔就會像沒牙的老人一樣，看上去年齡立刻大10歲以上。

兒童牙齒矯正戴上矯正器也不是一勞永逸，相反，這一階段更需要被矯正者時刻保持口腔衛生，免得讓矯正器變成食物殘渣和細菌的溫床。另外，要嚴格按照醫生的要求到醫院定期檢查、隨時調整，防止矯正器壓牙齦或剮嘴唇。出現這些問題都要由醫生處理，自己隨便調整矯正器容易造成矯正力度的變化，出現不好的效果。
